India’s First Greenfield Integrated Refinery
The Pachpadra refinery is a major project and is being described as India’s first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex.
With an investment of over ₹79,450 crore, it is one of the largest industrial projects in the region and is expected to play a key role in India’s energy sector.
Key Features of the Project
The refinery is designed to combine oil refining and petrochemical production in one complex.
It has a capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA)
- Petrochemical production capacity is 2.4 MMTPA
- It has a high Nelson Complexity Index of 17.0
- Petrochemical yield is expected to exceed 26%
These features place the refinery among advanced and efficient facilities globally.
Boost to Economy and Employment
The project is expected to strengthen India’s energy security and reduce dependence on imports. It will also support the growth of petrochemical industries in the region.
In addition, the refinery is likely to generate significant employment and boost local economic development. It is expected to act as a foundation for future industrial growth, including a petrochemical and plastic park nearby.
The refinery has been developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government.
