Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said the Rs 15,431-crore extension of the Baihata Chariali- Mission Chariali- Tezpur Section of National Highway-15 (NH-15) by the central Government will significantly Strengthen connectivity in the State and make travel faster, Safer and seamless. In a Social media Post, the Chief Minister described the ambitious Scheme as an important initiative to accelerate the infrastructure-based development of Assam.
According to the Government, the Project will widen and upgrade the major Portion of NH-15 that connects central and upper Assam. Officials said that after implementation, travel time will be reduced, traffic Jams will be reduced and road safety will improve, which will increase the convenience of both Goods vehicles and Passengers. The Project will also improve access to important commercial centers, educational institutions and tourist Places. The Baihata Chariali- Mission Chariali- Tezpur road is a major road connecting Guwahati to Sonitpur and several districts of Upper Assam and its improvement will also Strengthen connectivity with neighbouring States, including Arunachal Pradesh. The move is Part of a larger drive to modernise highway Infrastructure in the Northeast. Over the Years, the region has seen massive investments in roads, bridges, railways, and airports, fueling regional Growth. The Government of Assam has consistently maintained that better transport infrastructure is necessary to attract investment, Generate employment and ensure equitable regional development. Chief Minister Sarma wrote in the Post that this roject is a decisive Step towards increasing access to economic opportunities. He also underlined that infrastructure development is the basis for accelerating economic Growth, improving Public Services and creating new opportunities for the People of Assam. Necessary Preparations and coordination are being made by the concerned departments on technical and implementation aspects related to early commissioning and time-bound completion of the Project. Officials hoped that there will be a Strong boost to regional business and tourism activities after the completion of the Project.
