BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday launched a strong counterattack on Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge after the latter described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “jhooton ke sardar” (leader of liars) during a press conference in Patna.
Trivedi accused Kharge and the opposition’s INDIA bloc of spreading misinformation about the state’s progress under the NDA government and claimed that their “selective blindness” to development had “no cure.”
Kharge’s Remarks
Earlier in the day, Kharge had questioned the BJP and its ally JD(U) for allegedly sidelining Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during election campaigns. He also criticised the government’s claims of progress in Bihar, calling out the ruling alliance for “failing to deliver on promises” and accusing Prime Minister Modi of misleading the public.
Trivedi’s Counterattack
Responding to Kharge’s comments, Trivedi listed several indicators of Bihar’s growth under the NDA government.
He said Bihar’s per capita income had risen from ₹6,900 to ₹67,000, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) had expanded from ₹23,000 crore to ₹3.17 lakh crore, and the electricity coverage in the state had improved from 22 per cent to 100 per cent.
“I want to ask Kharge ji whether all these facts are lies,” Trivedi said.
He further pointed out that even in 2013, then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had praised Nitish Kumar’s developmental work, describing Bihar as the fastest-growing state in India. “Was that a lie too?” he asked.
Trivedi accused the opposition alliance of contradicting itself, stating that Congress leaders had earlier claimed the Union Budget 2025–26 heavily favoured Bihar, but were now alleging that nothing had been allocated to the state.
“Which is the lie — their statement then or now?” he questioned.
“No Cure for Night Blindness”
Taking a sharp dig at the INDIA bloc, Trivedi remarked, “Those suffering from night blindness have no cure.” He added that Bihar’s progress was visible to anyone who arrived at Patna airport or travelled through its roads.
He highlighted that Bihar now has two AIIMS institutions, several IITs, and a medical college planned in every district, underscoring what he described as a decade of transformative development under the NDA.
Attack on Congress and Rahul Gandhi
Trivedi accused the Congress of having a “habit of changing colours” while maintaining what he called “a consistent tendency to lie.”
He also targeted Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Congress leader had mocked the Chhath Puja festival by calling it a “drama.”
“Chhathi Maiyya will teach them a lesson in this election,” Trivedi said, adding that voters in Bihar would reject “certified liars” accused of corruption and once again support the “time-tested leadership of Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi.”
The exchange between the BJP and Congress comes amid an increasingly heated campaign ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Both the NDA and the INDIA bloc have intensified their attacks, with development, governance, and regional pride emerging as major electoral themes.
Trivedi’s comments reflect the BJP’s attempt to frame the election narrative around measurable progress, while the opposition seeks to challenge the government’s claims and highlight issues of unemployment.
