Lok Sabha Speaker delivered an address on the theme “INDIA@100: An Age of a New Dawn” at the 125th anniversary of the India Chamber of Commerce.
K.P Singh Kolkata: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today said that attracted by India strong and vibrant democratic system, the world is increasingly eager to invest in India. Highlighting India remarkable economic and technological progress, he said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi the country is rapidly moving towards becoming a global economic superpower.
Birla emphasized the government commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment by promoting minimum government, maximum governance, reducing bureaucratic hurdlesnand enabling industrial expansion. Encouraging the private sector to increase investment in research and development and adapt to global standards, he welcomed the Prime Minister assurance that the government will continue to take such efforts forward. This will enhance India progress towards global leadership in innovation.
Birla expressed these views while addressing the 125th anniversary celebrations of the India Chamber of Commerce held in Kolkata, themed “INDIA@100: An Age of a New Dawn.” The event, attended by eminent leaders from the world of industry and commerce, reflected India economic progress and the nation’s aspirations as it nears its centenary of independence.
Calling the India Chamber of Commerce a source of inspiration for business chambers across the country, Birla commended its unwavering dedication to public welfare and its pioneering efforts in promoting corporate social responsibility (CSR). He said that India remarkable transformation in social and economic sectors—despite its increasingly complex global environment—is a testament to the vision, perseverance and entrepreneurial spirit of the country industry.
Speaking on India democratic strengths, Birla said that the combination of visionary leadership, stability and inclusiveness has made India a model democracy for the world. He noted that democracy in India is not just a system of governance, but It is a way of life deeply ingrained in the nation’s social and cultural ethos. He further emphasized that India’s strong democratic institutions ensure policy continuity and strengthen investor confidence—essential for sustaining long-term economic growth.
He said that where democracy flourishes, strong and stable governance is established, enabling sound policy decisions and effective implementation. Birla also noted that India has emerged as a global hub for innovation and research and that strong public-private collaboration in technology and research and development (R&D) is propelling the country towards leadership in cutting-edge industries.
Speaking on the role of women and youth in inclusive development, Birla said that their increasing participation in various sectors symbolizes a profound social change. He noted that there has been a significant increase in women participation in various sectors and emphasized that they will continue to play a vital role in building a developed and self-reliant India. He also said that the contribution of youth and entrepreneurs in promoting innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship is crucial for the nation future. is shaping the world with energy and vision.
Reiterating the vision of a self-reliant India, Birla called for close collaboration between industry, government and academia to build a strong and self-reliant economy.
