Sachin Malik: Uttar Pradesh Energy and Urban Development Minister A.K. Sharma on Friday said that the sector once considered the State biggest weakness is now rapidly becoming its greatest Strength. He Stated that under the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh is moving swiftly towards becoming the country energy hub through green and renewable energy Development.

The minister said the State has achieved historic milestones in the Power Sector over the Past few Years. He noted that Uttar Pradesh thermal Power generation capacity has nearly doubled in the last four Years. Per capita Electricity consumption in the State, which Stood at 489 units in 2017, increased to 518 units in 2022 and has now reached 630 Units.

He further Said that Uttar Pradesh today ranks number one in the country in Peak Power demand supply and is also leading in the implementation of major central government Schemes such as RDSS and the Green Corridor Project. The State PLF (Plant Load Factor) has reached a historic level of 85 Percent, while AT&C losses have reduced despite record Power Supply.

Targeting the opposition, Sharma said some People are repeatedly spreading falsehoods in an attempt to turn lies into truth. He said the government Primary goal in the energy Sector is to Provide uninterrupted and quality 24×7 Electricity to all consumers and bring Uttar Pradesh Per capita Electricity consumption at Par with the national Average.

Highlighting the State energy journey, the minister said that during 70 Years after independence and four terms of the Samajwadi Party government, the State average Peak demand between 2012 and 2017 was only 13,000 MW. In contrast, over the last four Years, the average has increased to 30,000 MW — nearly two-and-a-half times higher. He said the actual Peak demand last Year reached 31,468 MW and despite rainfall in April this Year, the State successfully supplied 29,475 MW on April 28.

Sharma said Uttar Pradesh has remained the number one state in Peak Power supply for the last four Years. While the State had only 1.80 crore electricity consumers in 2017, the number has now risen to 3.70 crore. Around 50 lakh new Electricity connections have been Provided in the last four Years alone. Compared to 2017, more than double the number of consumers are now receiving Electricity.

He added that by 2017, only 1.20 lakh hamlets had been Electrified, whereas an additional 1.75 lakh hamlets have been connected to Electricity in the last six Years. The State maximum thermal Power generation capacity, which Stood at 5,160 MW in 2017, has now increased to 9,120 MW. Around 4,000 MW capacity has been added in the last four Years and the 660 MW Ghatampur Project is set to begin operations Soon.

According to Sharma, total Power availability from all sources in the State was 11,803 MW in 2017, which has now increased to 22,000 MW in 2025. To meet rising demand, an additional 10,600 MW capacity is being added through Projects at Obra-D, Anpara-E, Meja and Mirzapur. Furthermore, arrangements have already been secured for 55,840 MW capacity to meet requirements until 2034.

The minister also highlighted unprecedented growth in the transmission sector. The total capacity of major substations, which was 39,000 MVA in 2017, has now expanded to 2 lakh MVA. Due to these achievements, Uttar Pradesh transmission sector has been declared the best in the Country.

He informed that over the last four Years, nearly 30 lakh damaged and old electricity Poles have been replaced, while more than 1.65 lakh kilometers of outdated wires have been upgraded to AB cables. Additionally, 86 new 132 KV substations and 93 new 33 KV substations have been established and over 1,500 substations have been upgraded. Around 10.71 lakh transformers have been installed, replaced or upgraded across the State.

Speaking about the agriculture sector, Sharma said that while 10 lakh tube-well connections had been Provided to farmers until 2017, another 5 lakh additional connections have been given over the last eight years. He Claimed that villages are now receiving a minimum of 18 to 20 hours of Electricity supply, while urban areas are getting 24-hour Power supply. He remarked that uninterrupted Electricity in Uttar Pradesh was once unimaginable.

Sharma further Stated that Uttar Pradesh is the only state in the country where electricity tariffs have not been increased over the last six years. Farmers are being Provided free Electricity and nearly half of the consumers are receiving Electricity at almost half the actual Cost.

Highlighting achievements in renewable energy, the minister said Uttar Pradesh has become the leading state in daily installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana. In April 2026, the State ranked first in the country under the Scheme, while Lucknow emerged as the top-Performing district nationwide. With more than 4 lakh installations and around 1,400 MW generation capacity, Uttar Pradesh has Climbed to the third Position Nationally.

He said Ayodhya has become the country first solar city, and 16 other Cities are rapidly moving in the same direction. Over the last four years, the State solar energy capacity has reached 3,000 MW, with an additional 11,000 MW worth of Projects currently in the Pipeline.

The minister also said Uttar Pradesh ranks number one in the country in the bio-energy sector, where 25 CBG plants are Producing 240 tonnes daily. This, he said, is directly benefiting farmers and rural households. He added that the State is rapidly working towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Net Zero 2070” target through solar, bio, hydro, and nuclear energy initiatives.

Sharma said the adoption of technology and Professional management Practices has improved departmental efficiency and execution capacity. Transformer faults have reduced, billing errors have declined and consumers can now generate their own electricity bills through IT-based systems and mobile applications.

Concluding his address, the minister said that Power generation has increased significantly in recent years, Electricity supply has become more reliable and infrastructure has Strengthened across every region. He asserted that Uttar Pradesh has now emerged among the leading States in the country in the energy Sector.
