Sachin Malik: At the Annual open Debate on the “Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict” held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), India called for adopting a Policy of “Zero tolerance” toward civilian deaths. India Stated that countries Sheltering and sponsoring terrorism — an apparent reference to Pakistan — must be held Globally accountable. India also described Pakistan history as “tainted,” recalling that during “Operation Searchlight” in 1971, its own army carried out systematic atrocities and massacres against millions of Civilians.
India Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador P. Harish, made these remarks while Presenting India Position at the meeting. He emphasized that India has been a victim of cross-border terrorism for decades and that nations Providing Shelter and support to terrorism must face international Accountability.
According to a Statement issued by India Permanent Mission to the UN headquarters in New York, India also condemned Pakistan Cross-border attacks in Afghanistan, citing a report by the United Nations Assistance Mission, Which Stated that 269 Afghan civilians were Killed and more than 94,000 People were Displaced.
Quoting Harish, the mission Stated that such heinous attacks by Pakistan Should not come as a surprise from a country that bombs its own People and carries out systematic genocide. During Operation Searchlight in 1971, Pakistan allegedly Sanctioned a Systematic campaign of mass rape and Killings by its own army, resulting in atrocities against nearly 400,000 women civilians. Such inhuman conduct reflects Pakistan repeated attempts to divert attention from its internal failures through acts of violence both within and beyond its borders over several Decades.
Concluding his address, the Indian diplomat reiterated that the Protection of civilians must remain at the center of the Security Council efforts to maintain international Peace and security. He added that the international community must work together to restore and ensure respect for international humanitarian law and Strengthen accountability Mechanisms.
