Liberia Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, is on a two-day official visit to India. During her visit, she held a high-level bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, during Which the two sides held detailed discussions on trade, technology, agriculture, mining and healthcare, as well as reforms of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to a Statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the two ministers also discussed further Strengthening cooperation on multilateral Platforms to Promote Peace, development and a Stronger voice for the Global South. In this context, they also emphasized the importance of “reformed multilateralism,” including reforms of the UNSC.
The most historic and diplomatically significant moment of the visit came when Foreign Minister Nyanti officially inaugurated the Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in New Delhi in the presence of Sudhakar Dalela, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs. The move is Particularly significant as Liberia has re-established its resident diplomatic mission in India after a Gap of 35 Years. The mission had been Closed three decades ago due to diplomatic Challenges.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal wrote on ‘X’ that the establishment of the resident mission is an important milestone and will further strengthen the close bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Liberia. He said that both countries remain committed to working together to advance a mutually beneficial Partnership.
The opening of the embassy Premises is expected to facilitate exchanges of business delegations, commercial investment and visa Processes between the two countries. Several Indian companies are already actively operating in Liberia in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, mining and automobiles, and bilateral trade is now expected to Grow Further.
In an official Statement, the Liberian Government described the move as the beginning of a new diplomatic era. It said that the restoration of a permanent mission in New Delhi would Provide ordinary Liberian citizens with direct and faster access to medical visas, business visas, Scholarships and consular assistance for travel to India.
