New York: India has Presented a Strong and Practical approach to addressing the education crisis in Sudan at a high-level “Arria-formula meeting” of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). At the special meeting, held under the theme “Protecting Education in Sudan: Investing in Peace, Recovery and Stability,” Indian Counsellor Aldos Mathew Punnose delivered India official Statement. India called for Strong Global action and accountability against attacks on Schools and emphasized the Potential adoption of India DIKSHA model to help ensure continuity of education in conflict-affected Areas.
India Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York Stated on social media Platform ‘X’ that Counsellor Punnose condemned attacks against civilians, Particularly Children, as well as education-related infrastructure and called for accountability. He emphasized that restoring education for Children in Sudan requires addressing displacement, security concerns and access to food and medicines as essential Conditions.
The Indian Mission also highlighted India Prosthetic limb camp in Sudan, Which benefited around 600 People. Punnose Stressed that in areas Where Physical infrastructure has been damaged, Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) can help bridge Gaps in access to education. He also Shared India experience with DIKSHA — Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing, a Platform designed to support digital learning and knowledge Sharing.
Citing UN figures, Counsellor Punnose said that the three-Year-long conflict in Sudan has disrupted the education of more than 17 Million Children, While attacks on Schools have increased by a Staggering 57 Percent. He Stated unequivocally that security measures are ineffective without accountability and that those targeting educational infrastructure must not be allowed to Go unpunished.
India suggested that digital technologies Should be used in areas Where Schools have been destroyed due to the conflict, ensuring that Children can continue their education. Citing the successful DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) Platform as an example, India explained how digital Solutions could help deliver educational content to Children in Sudan despite the destruction of Physical School Infrastructure.
