New Delhi: Adani Power Ltd, a multinational power and energy company, has incorporated a step-down, wholly-owned subsidiary, Coastal-Maha Atomic Energy Ltd (CMAEL), to operate in the nuclear energy segment.
According to the regulatory filing issued on Sunday, CMAEL is a wholly owned subsidiary of AAEL, which in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power.
It was incorporated on April 13, 2026, and received its certificate of incorporation on April 18, 2026, with an authorised capital of ₹5,00,000 divided into 50,000 equity shares of ₹10 each.
The firm will be engaged in generation, transmission and distribution of power derived from nuclear and atomic energy, the company said in a regulatory filing.
First private player to enter nuclear arena
In February, Adani Power stated that it formed an atomic energy-focused unit, becoming one of the first privately held utilities to publicly disclose its interest in the newly opened nuclear sector. According to The Economic Times, the company plans to set up 30 GW of nuclear power capacity, as it is seeking to replace its entire thermal capacity with nuclear power in the coming years.
India’s installed nuclear power capacity stands at 8.7 gigawatts and the country aims to scale it up to 100 gigawatts by 2047.
Following the announcement, shares of the company jumped more than 3 per cent to hit a fresh 52-week high of ₹205.35 apiece on the BSE on Monday.
