88 Percent Increase in Vocational Education and Skill Development Budget, Major Emphasis on Youth Skill Development.
Sachin Malik: Kapil Dev Aggarwal Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Stated that the budget of Rs 9,12,696.35 crore for 2026-27 Presented by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna under the Guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is a strong foundation for realizing the grand vision of a developed Uttar Pradesh by 2047. He said that this budget of the Yogi government is dedicated to the 25 crore citizens of the state and will play a significant role in empowering and making them self-reliant, while rapidly moving the state towards the goal of a One trillion Dollar Economy.
Minister Aggarwal informed that the Yogi government is continuously striving to Provide employment-oriented training to the youth. In this regard, the budget for Vocational Education and Skill Development has been increased by 88 Percent compared to 2025-26 with an allocation of approximately Rs 3349 crore proposed. He stated that currently, 286 government industrial training institutes are operating in the state, offering 1,90,272 seats for youth training in various trades.
He further mentioned that the Yogi government is Prioritizing women empowerment. Special women branches are being operated in 47 government industrial training institutes in the state, while 12 independent government industrial training institutes are also being run for women. Additionally, more than 2963 private industrial training institutes are operating in the state with over 4.58 lakh seats available.
Minister Aggarwal stated that to provide modern training to youth in line with industry demands, the Yogi government, in collaboration with Tata Technologies Limited, has initiated training by upgrading 149 selected government industrial training institutes under Phase-1, while the upgradation of 62 institutes under Phase-2 is in progress. He informed that an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore has been proposed for training expenses for the operation of the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission and approximately Rs 836 crore for the Artisan Training Scheme. Along with this, Rs 500 crore has been proposed for Project Praveen and Rs 20 crore for the Chief Minister Apprenticeship Training Scheme.
Minister Aggarwal said that the positive results of the Yogi government skill development programs are evident. Over the past five years, the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission has trained and certified 9.25 lakh youth in various short-term training Programs, out of which 4.22 lakh youth have been provided employment in various reputed companies. He stated that the Yogi government goal is to empower youth with skills, make them self-reliant and accelerate the industrial development of the State.
