A major step towards disability empowerment; District Disability Rehabilitation Centres to be set up in every division: Minister Narendra Kashyap
Lucknow: In the Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Lok Bhawan, Lucknow approval was granted for the establishment and operation of District Disability Rehabilitation Centres (DDRC) at all 18 divisional headquarters of the state, to be funded by the State Government. At present, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment operates DDRCs only in 37 districts, out of which only 11 centres are located at divisional headquarters.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Backward Class Welfare and Disability Empowerment, Narendra Kashyap, said that the Yogi Government is committed to the dignity, security and overall empowerment of persons with disabilities. He informed that on 13 October 2025, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved the departmental action plan and directed that necessary steps be taken to establish DDRC in all divisional headquarters.
Subsequently, the Cabinet has now formally approved this proposal. He added that the new system to be operated by the Yogi Government will make service delivery for persons with disabilities more transparent, accessible, timely and effective.
Through these newly established centres, persons with disabilities will receive services such as disability surveys and identification, organisation of disability camps, repair of assistive devices, fabrication and fitting of artificial limbs, gait and usage training, distribution of assistive devices, awareness for prevention of disabilities, early detection and intervention—all under one roof.
Additionally, the process of issuing disability certificates and UDID cards will also be streamlined through these centres. Essential clinical services such as counselling, physiotherapy and speech therapy will also be available, ensuring that persons with disabilities and their families receive treatment and rehabilitation support at the local level.
