New Delhi : Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who did not play in the first T20I of India’s series against England, has once again fueled rumors about his international debut being near. The 15-year-old opening batter, who was one of the biggest attractions in the IPL 2026, playing for Rajasthan Royals, simply shared a mysterious line on his Instagram story before the second T20I.
“New chapter, ” Sooryavanshi scribbled, which made fans guess wildly about him getting his India debut.
Sooryavanshi was first named in the Indian senior team after a brilliant IPL 2026 season. He scored 776 runs at a breathtaking strike rate of 237.30. He received admiration worldwide for his fearless and explosive batting.
But, the young cricketer has not yet been capped at the international level. He was also not selected to play in the two T20Is against Ireland, and was again not in the playing XI for the opening T20I against England. That match was abandoned due to ongoing rain after England’s chase was interrupted.
Coach and captain on Sooryavanshi’s debut
So far, India’s team management has chosen to continue with the top order of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan – this trio was instrumental in India’s winning run in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shreyas Iyer have said that there is no reason to change a batting line-up that has been successful. Then again, Gambhir and Iyer have pointed out that Sooryavanshi’s time will come, and meanwhile, the youngster needs to keep up his patience.
Even so, a number of ex-players and supporters have challenged the rationale behind the brightest of India’s young talents still awaiting his first international match.
India will be facing England in the second T20I of the five-match series on Saturday, and this may well be the moment where Sooryavanshi makes his long-awaited international debut.
