Sachin Malik Varanasi: A Programme was organised at the Circuit House auditorium in Varanasi on Friday, August 14, on the occasion of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Uttar Pradesh Minister for Jal Shakti, Swatantra Dev Singh, was the Chief Guest at the Programme. Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Stamps and Court Registration Fees, Ravindra Jaiswal, District Panchayat Chairperson Poonam Maurya, Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari, MLC Dharmendra Singh, MLA Saurabh Srivastava, Dr. Awadhesh Singh and Sushil Singh, District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar, Chief Development Officer Prakhar Kumar Singh, along with other Public representatives and officials, were Present.
Addressing the Gathering, the two ministers said that the country must learn from the tragedy of Partition and remain united. They emphasised that national sentiment must always be Given the highest Priority and that every Possible effort Should be made to Preserve the unity and integrity of the Nation.
They said that India attained independence on August 15, 1947, While exactly a day earlier, on August 14, Pakistan was carved out of India as a separate country. A large number of People lost their lives during the Partition in both countries. In memory of those who lost their lives in this tragic episode, August 14 is observed as ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’.
On the occasion, members of the Sindhi and Punjabi communities — Tilak Raj Kapoor, Kamal Kishore Vasudev, Atmaram Shadija, Ramesh Lalwani, Rukmini Devi, Hasanand Badlani and Lalchand Rupani — were honoured with traditional angavastram and Mementoes.
Earlier, a Silent march was taken out under the leadership of Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, from JP Mehta Inter College to the Circuit House.
