New Delhi: Have you ever walked into your own home and felt a strange heaviness in the air? Not anything you can see or explain, but a feeling that something is just off. You feel irritable for no reason, sleep poorly, arguments happen more often, and the space that should feel like your sanctuary starts feeling like a burden.

That is what negative energy in a home feels like. And you are not imagining it.

What is negative energy in a home
Negative energy is not always supernatural. It is often the accumulated emotional residue of stress, arguments, grief, fear, illness, or prolonged sadness that has played out within your walls over time. Energy, according to ancient traditions and modern wellness practices alike, does not just disappear. It lingers in spaces, in corners, in objects, and in the air.

Homes absorb the energy of the people living in them. When that energy is consistently heavy or painful, the home itself starts to feel that way.

What are signs of negative energy at your home
Before you can clear it, you need to recognise it. Common signs include constant fatigue when you are at home, frequent arguments with family members, trouble sleeping despite being tired, a persistent feeling of anxiety or sadness indoors, plants dying without clear reason, and guests who rarely want to stay long.

If your home feels heavier than the outside world, something needs to shift.

How to remove negative energy from home

1. Clean and declutter first
This is the most underestimated step. Clutter is stagnant energy made visible. Old clothes, broken objects, things you no longer use, all of them hold energy from the past. Start by physically cleaning every room, opening windows, and throwing out or donating anything that no longer belongs in your present life. A clean space allows fresh energy to actually move through.

2. Use salt to absorb negativity
Salt has been used across cultures for centuries as a purifying agent. Place small bowls of sea salt or Himalayan pink salt in the corners of rooms, especially in spaces where tension is most felt. Leave them for 24 to 48 hours and then discard the salt outside your home. Never reuse it. It has absorbed what it was meant to absorb.

3. Burn sage or palo santo
Smudging with white sage or palo santo is one of the oldest and most effective energy-clearing rituals. Light the sage, let it catch a small flame, then blow it out so it smokes. Walk slowly through every room, letting the smoke reach corners, doorways, and windows. Set a clear intention as you move through the space. Finish by opening a window so the smoke and the energy it carries can leave.

4. Let sunlight and fresh air in
This sounds too simple to matter. It is not. Sunlight is one of the most powerful natural purifiers available to you. Open every curtain and window you can each morning. Let air circulate. Natural light physically and energetically shifts the atmosphere of a home faster than most rituals do.

5. Use sound to break stagnant energy
Clapping your hands firmly in corners, ringing a bell, playing singing bowls, or simply playing uplifting music breaks up stuck energy. Sound vibrations physically disrupt stagnant air and energetically refresh the space. Do this regularly, especially after difficult conversations or stressful periods.

How to keep positive energy in your home after clearing
Bring in fresh flowers or indoor plants. Burn incense or diffuse uplifting essential oils like lemon, frankincense, or eucalyptus. Laugh often inside your home. Cook meals with love. Invite people whose presence feels warm.

Your home reflects your inner world. Keep tending to both.
