DIG says strict action will be taken if investigation finds culprits
Bahraich: Following repeated complaints of illegal extortion and other irregularities in the District Jail, DIG Jail Shailendra Maitreya conducted a surprise inspection. During the four-hour inspection, the DIG thoroughly reviewed all the jail facilities, including the barracks, kitchen, visiting room and medical facilities. Relatives of prisoners released from jail had leveled serious allegations of illegal extortion against the administration. The DIG personally visited the District Jail to verify the complaints. He discovered numerous irregularities during the inspection and sought immediate clarification from the relevant officials. DIG Shailendra Maitreya stated that the complaints are extremely serious and strict action will be taken if found guilty. He added that any negligence or corruption in jail arrangements will not be tolerated. The DIG surprise inspection caused a stir within the jail administration. However, the relatives of the prisoners appeared satisfied with the DIG actions. The family members say that due to this inspection, there is now hope for improvement in the jail.
