Sachin Malik: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar held a Significant meeting with Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, during the latter four-day official visit to India. The meeting marked another important Step in Strengthening the historic and Strategic Partnership between India and Zanzibar, the Semi-Autonomous Region of the United Republic of Tanzania.
During the discussions, both leaders emphasized enhancing cooperation in Several Priority areas, including higher education, capacity building, water supply, healthcare, artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure and other development-focused Sectors. Describing the meeting as highly Productive, Dr. Jaishankar said the discussions would further advance the Shared development agenda of both Sides.
In a Post on X, Dr. Jaishankar wrote, “We discussed expanding cooperation in higher education, capacity building, water supply, health, AI, digital technologies and other Priority Sectors. The IIT Madras campus in Zanzibar is an outstanding example of our Close Partnership and India unwavering commitment to Africa education and development Priorities.”
As Part of his visit, President Mwinyi also attended the 63rd Convocation Ceremony of IIT Madras in Chennai as the Chief Guest. His visit carries Significance beyond bilateral relations, reflecting the Growing Strategic engagement between India and Africa.
The meeting highlighted India continued commitment to addressing the Priorities of the Global South, including technology transfer, digital inclusion, Skill development and Sustainable development. It also reaffirmed India role as a trusted development Partner for African Nations.
Underscoring the importance of the visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “This visit reflects the Growing momentum in the India–Tanzania Strategic Partnership, built on long-Standing People-to-People ties and our Shared Priorities as Partners in the Global South.”
