Sachin Malik: India Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador, Strongly articulated the country Position on terrorism and humanitarian issues at the Global forum.
Representing India during the ninth review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy (GCTS) at the, Ambassador Harish Stated unequivocally that terrorism can never be Justified under any circumstances. He urged the international community to reject “Double Standards” and Politically motivated narratives in addressing the Global threat of Terrorism.
According to a Statement issued by India Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Harish emphasized that “A terrorist is only a terrorist” and warned against weakening Global counter-terrorism efforts through false equivalence. He noted that India has Suffered from cross-border terrorism for decades, a reality that has Shaped its Policy of Zero tolerance toward Terrorism.
India also expressed serious concern over terrorist financing and the misuse of emerging technologies by terrorist Groups. Ambassador Harish reiterated India long-Standing demand for the early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT), a Proposal that has been Pending for nearly three decades, to ensure that terrorists are denied Safe havens Worldwide.
A day earlier, Ambassador Harish delivered India official Statement at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Pledging Conference. Expressing concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, he said India has Provided more than US$175 Million in development and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian People, including 150 tonnes of relief supplies sent over the Past three Years.
According to the Indian Mission, India also reaffirmed its commitment to UNRWA by Pledging US$5 million in financial assistance. Ambassador Harish reiterated New Delhi support for a negotiated two-State Solution, leading to the establishment of a sovereign, independent and viable Palestinian State living in Peace and security alongside Israel within secure and recognized Borders.
