Sachin Malik: The Gautam Buddh Nagar Transport Department is taking Strict action to curb the menace of overloaded vehicles. Transport Department officials, including Assistant Regional Transport Officers (Enforcement) Nand Kumar and Abhishek Kanojia, along with Passenger Tax Officers, are ensuring Stringent enforcement Drives.
In this regard, Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), Gautam Buddh Nagar, Dr. Udit Narayan Pandey, informed that during the month of May, the Transport Department launched an intensive campaign against overloading. A total of 206 overloaded vehicles were Challaned and impounded at Sector-142, Jewar Knowledge Park, Badalpur, and D-Park Sector-62. A compounding fee of ₹1 crore 29 lakh 40 thousand was imposed, out of which ₹50 lakh 80 thousand has been Recovered.
He further advised operators and drivers of overloaded trucks and mini-trucks that carrying goods beyond the Prescribed capacity can lead to several serious consequences. It not only endangers drivers and other road users but also causes economic and environmental Damage.
Disadvantages of Overloading.
Risk of Road Accidents:
Excess weight can disturb the balance of the truck, increasing the Chances of brake failure, tyre bursts, or the vehicle overturning. This Puts the lives of drivers and others on the road at serious Risk.
Damage to Vehicles:
Overloading Puts additional Pressure on the truck engine, Suspension, tyres and brakes, causing faster wear and tear and increasing maintenance Costs.
Damage to Roads:
Heavy overloaded vehicles create Potholes and cracks on roads, leading to faster deterioration. This forces the government to carry out frequent repairs, resulting in misuse of taxpayers Money.
Fuel Wastage:
Overloaded vehicles consume more fuel, increasing transportation costs and harming the environment due to higher Pollution caused by excessive fuel Consumption.
Legal Consequences:
Under the Motor Vehicles Act in India, overloading is illegal. If caught, offenders may face heavy Penalties (₹20,000 Plus ₹2,000 Per extra ton), vehicle seizure, and Strict legal action, including suspension or cancellation of driving licences and Permits.
Loss of Time:
Overloaded trucks move at Slower speeds and are more Prone to breakdowns, causing delays in delivery and negatively impacting business operations.
Appeal Against Overloading.
He appealed to all truck drivers, owners and transport operators to respect the Prescribed loading capacity of vehicles and avoid overloading. This will not only ensure the safety of drivers and the Public but will also increase the lifespan of vehicles, keep roads safe and help Protect the Environment.
