Sachin Malik: India Presented its views on the energy and fertilizer crisis arising from the West Asia conflict during a special meeting on “Security of Energy and Supply Flows” organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
ndia Permanent Representative to the United Nations, P. Harish, emphasized the need for both immediate Short-term measures and long-term Structural Solutions to effectively address the global energy and fertilizer crisis triggered by the conflict in West Asia. He underlined that Strong international cooperation among countries is essential to Prevent disruptions in Global Supply Chains.
India also expressed deep concern over threats to maritime Security and the unhindered freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. India Clearly Stated that targeting commercial vessels, endangering civilian crews and disrupting international maritime routes are completely unacceptable. It Stressed that any attempt to obstruct freedom of navigation in this Strategic waterway is a matter of serious concern, as the route is crucial for global energy Security.
Sharing Photographs from the Meeting on Social Media Platform X, Harish Wrote, “At the ECOSOC special meeting on ‘Security of Energy and Supply Flows,’ held in the context of the West Asia conflict, India Shared its Perspective on the recent energy and fertilizer Crisis. Along with Short-term and Structural measures, international cooperation is extremely important to address this Crisis.”
He further reiterated that targeting commercial Ships, endangering civilian crews and obstructing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz are unacceptable acts. He emphasized that international law must be fully respected in this Regard.
It is noteworthy that ECOSOC is one of the six Principal organs of the United Nations. It serves as the main Platform for discussion, Policy-Making and coordination on global economic, social and environmental issues. The council works toward advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Promoting human rights, and coordinating among UN specialized agencies Such as UNESCO, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). India has consistently Played an active role in Promoting Global Social and Economic Cooperation.
