Sachin Malik: Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister, today conducted a comprehensive review of Various Schemes and Projects being implemented under the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department at the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural) auditorium. The meeting was attended by the Additional Chief Secretary of the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department, the Managing Director of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural), the Project Director of the State Clean Ganga Mission, the Executive Director of the State Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission, the Director of the Groundwater Department and other concerned Officials.
During the review meeting, the minister directed officials to ensure the timely completion of under-construction Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) under the Namami Gange Projects. He Stressed that no drain Should discharge untreated water into rivers and instructed officials to Prepare an effective action Plan for immediate implementation. He also emphasized the need to establish Sewage Treatment Plants in major Cities such as Prayagraj, Varanasi, Kanpur, Mathura, Agra, Lucknow, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur as Required.
The minister also instructed officials to ensure effective implementation of the District River Rejuvenation Plan for the restoration of Smaller rivers and to execute the “Reuse of Treated Water” Policy in coordination with all concerned Departments.
Keeping the summer season in view, the minister directed officials to ensure regular and smooth drinking water supply in as many villages as Possible through Schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural). He also instructed that complaints related to drinking water supply Should be resolved Promptly.
During the review, Schemes being implemented in quality and quantity (Q&Q) affected districts such as Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Unnao and Ballia were also examined. The minister directed that repair and maintenance work of newly installed and old tube wells, along with Post-treatment units under various Schemes, Should be completed within the next 15 days and made fully operational to ensure safe drinking water supply in affected Areas.
In addition, officials were instructed to keep all Arsenic Removal Units (ARU) and Fluoride Removal Units (FRU) fully functional in Quality-affected Regions.
During the review of the Groundwater Department, officials informed that water conservation and rainwater harvesting efforts over the Past Years have Shown Positive results. In 2017, there were 82 over-exploited development blocks in the State, while according to the 2025 assessment, the number has reduced to 44.
The minister also directed officials to launch extensive Public awareness campaigns in 10 groundwater-Stressed cities, organize workshops in coordination with various departments and non-governmental organizations and ensure effective efforts for Groundwater Conservation.
