Sachin Malik: Despite a ban imposed in 2013 on the entry of Sleeper buses into Delhi, such buses are reportedly still operating from the capital to various districts of Uttar Pradesh. The Delhi Transport Department had earlier Stated that Sleeper buses Pose serious safety risks and could Prove fatal in the event of accidents, and therefore cannot be Permitted to operate in Delhi.
However, reports suggest that these buses continue to operate from areas such as Kashmere Gate, transporting Passengers to multiple destinations across Uttar Pradesh.
Allegations have also emerged that goods are being transported on the Rooftops of these Sleeper buses, Potentially in violation of GST and transport regulations.
These buses are said to move through Noida, Ghaziabad and Mathura routes, raising concerns about a larger network of operations. It is important to note that these Claims require independent Verification.
As Per transport regulations, tourist Permit buses are not allowed to carry goods, especially on their rooftops. Any such activity would constitute a violation of safety and regulatory Norms.
There are also concerns being raised in certain quarters regarding Possible lapses in enforcement by relevant authorities, including transport and traffic agencies. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding such Claims.
The Government has consistently emphasized a “Zero Tolerance” Policy toward illegal activities. In Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly Stressed Strict action against unlawful Practices.
