Sachin Malik: Urban Development and Energy Minister A. K. Sharma attended a strategic consultation meeting on the ‘Urban Challenge Fund’ held late yesterday evening at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, under the Chairmanship of Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. The meeting included detailed discussions on key issues such as Prioritization of Projects for States and Union Territories, simplification of decision-making Processes, strengthening of approval systems and ensuring timely disbursement of funds.
Minister Sharma stated that the ₹1 lakh crore central assistance earmarked under the Urban Challenge Fund (UCF) is a historic initiative that will give a new direction to urban development in the country. He said that this fund will Play a crucial role in developing states and cities as “centers of economic growth.” He added that the Uttar Pradesh government is committed to the holistic development of urban areas and will Prioritize and expedite projects identified under the UCF.
He further highlighted that initiatives such as Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCC), digitization of urban services, drone-based encroachment management, Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), dumpsite rehabilitation, waste management, heritage conservation and street lighting will significantly improve the efficiency and quality of life in cities.
He also noted that this initiative will not only strengthen urban infrastructure but will also accelerate employment generation, attract investment and Promote sustainable development. Sharma expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the central and state governments will transform cities in Uttar Pradesh into modern, well-organized, and self-reliant urban centers.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Principal Secretary (Urban Development) P. Guru Prasad, representatives from various states, senior officials, and experts associated with the urban development sector.
