Rahul Lucknow: Amidst grand claims of development in the state, the Sanjay Setu (Ghaghra bridge) remains in a dilapidated condition. Against this neglect, social activist Sanjeev Singh Rathore stood in front of the Assembly building and voiced the suffering of millions of people from Bahraich, Gonda, Shravasti and Balrampur districts to the authorities.
Holding a placard, he sharply questioned:
“When the government is claiming development everywhere, when will the damaged Sanjay Setu finally be rebuilt?”
Sanjeev Singh Rathore said that this bridge is not just a concrete structure, but the lifeline of four districts. Today, the situation is such that every vehicle crossing the bridge does so under a cloud of fear. Traffic jams, the risk of accidents and ambulances being stuck for hours have become commonplace.
He questioned who would take responsibility if a major accident were to occur?
He alleged that for years, leaders have come and gone, announcements have been made, and files have moved, but the work on the ground remains incomplete. Despite repeated submissions of memorandums, neither has construction begun nor has a clear timeline been set. This situation is a direct betrayal of the public’s trust.
Sanjeev Singh Rathore said that the future of students, the lives of patients, and the livelihoods of traders are all linked to this bridge, but the responsible elected representatives remain silent.
He warned that if the construction/reconstruction of the Sanjay Setu is not announced soon and time-bound work is not started, the movement will be intensified with the support of the public.
He demanded that the government translate the promises regarding the damaged Sanjay Setu into reality and publicly announce a clear timeline so that the people of the region can get relief.
