Lucknow Abhimanyu Kumar : The Bharatiya Kisan Mazdoor Union Dashahari has raised serious concerns over the alleged delay in processing files of farmers affected by the Varun Vihar Scheme and the alleged involvement of middlemen in the process.
Union National President Manish Yadav has submitted a written complaint to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Sarojini Nagar, and concerned officials of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), seeking a transparent, uniform and time-bound system for disposal of farmers’ files.
Farmers from 12 villages affected by the Varun Vihar Scheme—Adampur Indwara, Bahru, Jaliyamau, Madarpur, Ibrahimganj, Naktoura, Gehlwara, Tej Krishna Kheda, Rewari, Sakra, Dona and Bhalia—are submitting consent letters and other required documents for registration of their land in favour of the Lucknow Development Authority.
As part of the registration process, the farmers’ files are forwarded to the Sarojini Nagar Tehsil for verification and preparation of necessary reports. According to the complaint submitted by the union, a large number of files have remained pending at the tehsil level for a prolonged period.
Around 1,500 files are reportedly awaiting verification reports and other necessary action, while several files are allegedly pending for six months or more, causing difficulties for the affected farmers.
Allegations of 2% to 5% Facilitation Fee
Farmers have also alleged that certain influential persons or middlemen are demanding a 2% to 5% facilitation fee for getting their files processed. According to the allegations, some files are processed relatively quickly after approaching such individuals, while farmers who do not approach middlemen allegedly face prolonged delays or repeated objections.
The allegations have not been officially verified so far. However, if found to be true after an impartial inquiry, the matter could raise serious concerns regarding the alleged financial exploitation of farmers and transparency in the government process.
Farmers Demand 30-Day Disposal
Manish Yadav has demanded that a uniform, transparent and time-bound procedure be implemented for all farmers affected by the Varun Vihar Scheme across the 12 villages.
The union has urged the authorities to ensure that every file is properly scrutinised and disposed of, along with the required report, within a maximum period of 30 days.
The farmers’ organisation has also demanded an impartial inquiry into the alleged role of middlemen and the alleged collection of facilitation fees. It has called for strict action against anyone found responsible following the investigation.
The union has further urged the administration and LDA to make the status of pending files accessible to farmers and provide clear information about the progress of their respective cases.
The organisation said that such a system would help farmers avoid repeated visits to the tehsil offices and ensure greater transparency and accountability in the process.
The matter now awaits a response and action from the concerned authorities.
