NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the return of ancient Chola-era copper plates from the Netherlands, describing the development as a moment that filled every Indian with pride.

Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi recalled his recent visit to the Netherlands and said one particular event stood out during the trip. He noted that the centuries-old copper plates were formally handed back to India at a special ceremony attended by the Dutch Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said the return of the artefacts had sparked widespread joy among people in India and abroad. He added that members of the Tamil community across the world had expressed special enthusiasm over the repatriation of the historic relics.

Ganga Dolphin Rescue Becomes Highlight of PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat
Prime Minister Narendra PM Modi highlighted the successful rescue of a Ganga dolphin in Uttar Pradesh, praising the patience and dedication of those involved in saving the endangered aquatic animal.

Referring to a widely discussed video, PM Modi said a team of people worked carefully and tirelessly for nearly 13 hours to rescue the dolphin, which had become trapped in a canal. He noted that their efforts ultimately proved successful and the dolphin was saved.

India’s First Ganga Dolphin Rescue Ambulance Played Key Role
The Prime Minister said a crucial role in the rescue operation was played by India’s first Ganga Dolphin Rescue Ambulance, developed under the Namami Gange programme.

According to PM Modi, the ambulance was rushed to the spot after the dolphin became stranded in a canal in Uttar Pradesh. The animal was carefully rescued, examined and treated before being safely released back into the river.

Describing the rescue as a heartening example of wildlife conservation, PM Modi said the operation ensured that the dolphin could safely return to its natural habitat. He added that the initiative reflects India’s growing commitment to protecting biodiversity and conserving the Ganga’s unique ecosystem.

Kerala’s Unique ‘School in a River’ Teaching Lifesaving Swimming Skills
In his Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted an unusual initiative from Kerala where classes are held not inside classrooms but in a river. Describing it as a “school” that welcomes children, youth and the elderly alike, PM Modi said the initiative has no fees, no large buildings and no conventional classrooms.

From Tragedy To A Lifesaving Mission
The Prime Minister said the initiative is being run by Saji Valasseril in Aluva, Kerala, through a swimming club that has trained more than 15,000 people so far. According to PM Modi, Saji has also taught swimming to specially-abled children.

Sharing the story behind the effort, PM Modi said it was inspired by a personal tragedy. Several years ago, a boat accident claimed the lives of many students, deeply affecting Saji. Reflecting on the incident, he realised that many lives might have been saved if the children had known how to swim.

PM Modi noted that this thought eventually turned into a mission, leading Saji to dedicate himself to teaching swimming and water safety to people from all walks of life. The Prime Minister praised the initiative as an example of how one person’s determination can help protect lives and serve society.
