Lucknow: A devastating fire incident in the Purnia area under Aliganj police station limits in Uttar Pradesh’s capital, Lucknow, on Monday has left the entire city shaken. A fire that reportedly broke out in a shop quickly turned into a massive blaze and spread to a coaching center operating on the upper floor of the building. At the time of the incident, a large number of students and other people were present in the coaching center, many of whom became trapped inside the building. According to preliminary information, around 14 people lost their lives in this tragic incident, while several others were injured.
Building Engulfed in Smoke and Flames Within Minutes
According to eyewitnesses, the fire initially broke out in a shop located on the ground floor. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but within moments, the flames and thick smoke spread throughout the building. Students attending classes at the coaching center on the upper floor desperately searched for ways to escape amid the chaos.
The situation became so critical that several students were forced to jump from the roof and ledges of the building in an attempt to save their lives. The scene was marked by panic, screams, and confusion. Local residents immediately began rescue efforts and tried to help those trapped inside the building.
Fire Brigade and Police Engaged in Rescue Operations
Upon receiving information about the incident, multiple teams from the fire brigade and police rushed to the spot. Firefighters launched an extensive operation to control the blaze and rescue people trapped inside the building. After hours of effort, the fire was eventually brought under control.
During the rescue operation, several people were safely evacuated, while those who suffered serious burn injuries were immediately admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities secured the entire area and continued relief and rescue operations.
District Magistrate Took Charge at the Scene
Lucknow District Magistrate Vishakh G. Iyer personally reached the site and monitored the rescue operation. He reviewed the situation with officials present at the scene and directed them to expedite relief and rescue efforts. The administration has been closely monitoring the situation and ensuring that all possible assistance is provided to the injured.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Expresses Grief
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognizance of the tragic incident. He expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved families. The Chief Minister instructed officials to ensure that there is no negligence in relief and rescue operations and that the injured receive the best possible medical treatment. He also directed senior officials to visit the site, monitor the situation, and conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.

The actual cause of the fire remains unknown at present. Teams from the administration and the fire department have begun an investigation into the incident. Preliminary inquiries are examining possibilities including a short circuit and other potential causes.
