New Delhi | October 30, 2025:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Telangana as extremely heavy rainfall continues under the impact of Cyclone Montha, which has now weakened into a deep depression over coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Telangana. Despite the cyclone’s weakening trend, heavy rainfall warnings remain in effect for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand until Friday (October 31, 2025).

Telangana on Red Alert: Extremely Heavy Rain Forecast

The IMD has placed Telangana under a red alert, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 50 kmph in several districts.

  • Districts under Red Alert: Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
  • Orange Alert Areas: Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Adilabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtial, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Suryapet.
  • Yellow Alert Zones: Nizamabad, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Rangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy.

Officials have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain indoors and follow advisories issued by the Telangana Disaster Management Authority (TSDMA). The Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad has also shared a 7-day forecast predicting continued showers and thunderstorms across parts of the state through the weekend.

“Extremely heavy rainfall is expected over north and central Telangana districts through Thursday, with gradual reduction from Friday,” said an IMD official in Hyderabad.

West Bengal: Intense Rainfall Till Friday

In West Bengal, the IMD has forecast three days of intense rainfall as Cyclone Montha’s remnants move northeastward. The rainfall intensity is expected to gradually shift from South Bengal to North Bengal between October 29 and 31.

  • October 29: Light to moderate rain with isolated heavy showers and gusty winds (up to 55 kmph) likely over South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, and Paschim Medinipur.
  • October 30: Rain will move inland affecting Purulia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Paschim Bardhaman.
  • October 31: North Bengal districts — including Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, and Alipurduar — will see heavy to very heavy rain under yellow and orange alerts.

Weather conditions are expected to improve from November 1, with skies turning partly cloudy and dry by November 3, according to the IMD’s latest bulletin.

Andhra Pradesh, Bihar & Jharkhand on Alert

While Cyclone Montha has weakened significantly over land, moderate to heavy rainfall continues across parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, especially in Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, and Srikakulam districts.
In the eastern region, Bihar and Jharkhand are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall with thunderstorms through Friday, as the system moves northeastward.

IMD Advisory for Public Safety

The IMD has advised state administrations to remain on high alert for potential flash floods, waterlogging, and power disruptions. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the Bay of Bengal due to rough sea conditions.

Authorities in affected states have been asked to keep rescue and relief teams on standby and monitor river levels closely. Commuters are advised to avoid travel in heavy rain, particularly in low-lying regions.
