New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday flagged off 45 electric buses and three hydrogen-powered buses for operations in Noida, Greater Noida and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region, saying the state aims to connect every city and village with environmentally friendly transport services in the coming years.

The buses, operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), will provide connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the Noida Electric Bus Depot during the event, which was held via video conferencing from Lucknow.

‘Green Mobility Is the Future’
Addressing the gathering, Yogi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given the country the vision of green mobility and sustainable development, and Uttar Pradesh was working to translate that vision into reality.

“Every city and village in the state will be connected through petrol and diesel-free green mobility services in the coming years,” the Chief Minister said.

He added that environmentally friendly transport had become a necessity in view of global challenges such as climate change, air pollution and rising energy concerns.

110 Electric Buses by June 15, Fleet to Grow to 500
The Chief Minister announced that 110 electric buses would begin operations across Noida, Greater Noida and YEIDA by June 15. Depending on demand, the fleet would be expanded in phases to 500 buses.

Officials said the buses would strengthen last-mile connectivity in the region, particularly for passengers travelling to and from the upcoming Noida International Airport.

Yogi noted that while metro services already operate in parts of Noida and Greater Noida, electric buses would help bridge connectivity gaps and provide a cleaner transportation alternative

Hydrogen Buses Introduced Near Jewar Airport
Alongside the electric buses, three hydrogen-powered buses were also launched in the Yamuna Authority area.

The buses have been provided by NTPC and will operate near Jewar Airport. According to the Chief Minister, the hydrogen used for these vehicles will be produced using treated sewage water rather than groundwater or surface water.

He described green hydrogen mobility as an innovative step towards reducing air pollution and supporting India’s net-zero emissions goals.

Showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s Infrastructure Push

During his address, Yogi highlighted the transformation of Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure over the past nine years, citing the expansion of expressways, highways and airports across the state.

He said Uttar Pradesh now has a road network of around four lakh kilometres and has emerged as an “Expressway State” with projects such as the Ganga Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway and Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

The Chief Minister also pointed to the state’s growing aviation infrastructure, noting that Uttar Pradesh now has five international airports — in Lucknow, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Kushinagar and Noida.

Focus on Clean Energy
Yogi said more than 700 electric buses are already operating across 17 municipal corporations in the state and highlighted efforts to promote clean energy through initiatives such as the Uttar Pradesh Clean Air Management Project (UP CAMP), which is being implemented with World Bank assistance.

He also noted that Uttar Pradesh has shifted from conventional lighting to more than 15 lakh LED streetlights, helping reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The event was attended by Finance Minister Suresh Khanna, Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh and other senior officials.
