Under the leadership of Energy Minister A.K Sharma, UP energy capacity gets a new boost, 660 MW strength added through Ghatampur Unit–2
Sachin Malik Lucknow: Tuesday proved to be a day of significant achievement for the state power system. The commercial operation of Unit–2 (660 MW) of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project commenced from 9 December 2025. With the start of production in the second phase of this project, which is a joint venture of the Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam and the Government of India company NLC India Limited, the total operational capacity has increased to 1320 MW.
Congratulating the people of the state, Energy Minister A.K Sharma said that this achievement will give a new direction to the state energy self-reliance. He informed that in recent years, an increase of 5280 MW in the state thermal power generation has been recorded, as a result of which the state own energy availability has nearly doubled. This progress will not only give new momentum to industrial expansion but will also ensure stable and quality power supply to consumers.
The Energy Minister described this is a historic progress made possible under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister and expressed gratitude towards them. He said that the full operation of the Ghatampur project will strengthen Uttar Pradesh energy sector and in the coming years, will become a major foundation for providing continuous and reliable energy availability to the state.
