New Delhi: Former Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Annamalai has reportedly resigned from the party He has tendered his resignation to party president Nitin Nabin in New Delhi on Tuesday. There have been reports that he is likely to start his own political party.
As per reports, he has submitted a 4-page resignation letter to the BJP president. Annamalai is also expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the day. He was reportedly unhappy for not being given any position within the party.
Annamalai reportedly wanted to contest Tamil Nadu polls
He reportedly wanted to contest the recently concluded Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and also wanted tickets for his supporters. However, it is believed that the party did not approve it, which made him unhappy with the BJP. In his letter, Annamalai is reported to raise a number of issues against the state BJP.
During his meeting with Amit Shah, the former BJP leader is expected to share reasons behind his decision to quit the party. He is expected to launch a new party on June 4. Earlier on Monday, before leaving for Delhi, Annamalai told reporters that he would make his stand clear in two day. “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days,” he told reporters, as per news agency PTI.
Opposed CBSE’s three-language formula recently
In recent times, he opposed the CBSE’s recent announcement to implement the three-language policy for Class 9 students from the from the ongoing academic year. His demand to roll back the notification, led to speculations that he was opposing the Centre and was planning to launch his own party. He has been maintaining a low profile since the BJP’s top leadership replaced him with Nainar Nagenthran and revived the electoral agreement with the AIADMK before the 2026 Assembly election.
