Sachin Malik: Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, in a Statement issued on Saturday, Strongly Criticized the Central Government and the BJP over what he described as Misleading Propaganda surrounding the Women Reservation Bill and recent developments related to delimitation in Parliament. He Clarified that the Women Reservation Bill has neither been scrapped nor altered, rather, it has already been Passed and remains in force.
According to him, the opposition only defeated an amendment through which the BJP allegedly Sought to Promote divisive Politics in the Country under the guise of delimitation linked to the Bill.
Sanjay Singh Stated that over the Past day, a false narrative has been spread across the country Claiming that the opposition has brought down the Women Reservation Bill, whereas the reality is entirely the opposite. He emphasized that the bill, Passed in 2023, is Still fully in effect, and that the Central Government notified it on April 16, 2026—after a delay of nearly three Years. He questioned why the bill was kept Pending for so long and what Prompted its sudden notification Now.
He also Sharply criticized the role of the media, alleging that certain sections of the Press were uncritically echoing the Claims made by the Prime Minister and BJP leaders. He said that several Prominent newspapers Published misleading headlines such as “Women’s Reservation Bill Scrapped” or “Opposition blocks Women Reservation,” which he termed factually incorrect and deceptive. He added that such Journalism, despite being handled by educated editors, Poses a serious threat to democracy.
Sanjay Singh further accused the BJP of Politicizing women rights. He argued that the Party record contradicts its current stance, citing alleged Silence on incidents like those in Manipur, the Hathras case, and the Ankita Bhandari Case. He said that a Political ideology that has not ensured equal status for women cannot now Claim to Champion their Rights.
He Claimed that the amendment introduced by the BJP was not truly about women reservation but was effectively a “BJP victory bill,” aimed at increasing its electoral advantage and weakening democratic structures. According to him, it was a calculated attempt to gain Political benefit under the cover of women rights, which the united opposition successfully thwarted in Parliament.
He noted that the 2023 bill Clearly Stated that reservation would be implemented only after a census and subsequent delimitation, which could delay its implementation until 2034. He reiterated that the Aam Aadmi Party had then—and Still does—demand immediate implementation of 33% reservation in all 543 Lok Sabha Seats.
On the issue of delimitation, he alleged that the BJP intended to redraw constituencies based on the 2011 Census, which would reduce the number of seats in states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Kerala. He argued that this would create regional imbalance and Potentially fuel conflict between northern and southern States. He questioned whether citizens wanted division and discord or Peace and Unity.
He further accused the BJP of engaging in divisive Politics, Claiming that the opposition collectively defeated such attempts in Parliament. He added that while the BJP may have hoped to use the issue as an electoral tool, it has instead backfired in states like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, where People have linked the issue to their representation and dignity.
Referring to an alleged Sting operation, Sanjay Singh raised serious questions about the BJP, Claiming that a Person named Humayun Kabir received substantial financial assistance and government security to contest Elections. He questioned the intent behind Providing such support and whether it was Part of a deliberate strategy to create social Discord.
In conclusion, he appealed to the Public to remain vigilant against misleading Propaganda and divisive Politics. He said that true Patriotism lies in upholding Peace, Unity and harmony. He warned that if the Central Government continues to undermine constitutional and democratic values, the Public is Prepared to respond Decisively.
