New Delhi: The wait for Hera Pheri 3 may get longer. Akshay Kumar has confirmed the film is not moving ahead anytime soon, with legal and contractual issues slowing it down. A copyright claim over the franchise’s rights, challenging producer Firoz Nadiadwala’s ownership, has further added to the uncertainty.
Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s YouTube channel, the actor addressed ongoing speculation around the film and said it is currently not on track. “Hera Pheri 3 abhi filhaal toh nahi ban rahi (The film is not happening as of now),” he said, adding that even he was taken aback by the developments.
Akshay noted that while fans are eager to see the original trio reunite, several unresolved issues have stalled the project. “For the next one year, the film is not on track. There are many issues, but not with us three actors,” he said, referring to Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal. He added that certain matters cannot be discussed publicly, hinting at ongoing agreements and complications behind the scenes.
The film has faced multiple hurdles in recent months, including reported legal disputes over the franchise’s rights and Paresh Rawal’s unexpected exit from the project, which came as a surprise to both fans and Akshay, who had acquired the rights.
Despite the uncertainty, the actor struck a hopeful note. “It will happen when the time is right. I just hope we are not too old by then,” he said with a touch of humour.
The Hera Pheri franchise, helmed by Priyadarshan, began with Hera Pheri (2000), which introduced audiences to the iconic trio of Raju, Shyam and Baburao. Its sequel, Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by the late Neeraj Vora, further cemented its cult status.
For now, fans may have to wait a while longer before the beloved characters return to the big screen.
