NEW DELHI : The second week of September brings a streaming slate that moves from India’s revolutionary movement and the lawless heartlands to restless spirits, complicated marriages, missing children and romance. Leading the lineup is Nikkhil Advani’s The Revolutionaries, which brings Bhuvan Bam, Rohit Saraf, Pratibha Ranta and Gurfateh Pirzada together for a period drama about young revolutionaries who embraced armed resistance against British rule. Tigmanshu Dhulia, meanwhile, pits Pratik Gandhi against Arshad Warsi in Ghamasaan, where the familiar cop-versus-dacoit equation becomes murkier with every turn.
Elsewhere, Asha Negi and Vishal Vashishtha investigate 40 restless spirits in Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, Tyler Perry takes his familiar ensemble to Lake Como for Why Did I Get Married Again?, and Call My Agent! reunites the ASK gang for one final cinematic disaster. The Revolutionaries – Prime Video, September 11
Nikkhil Advani turns his attention to India’s revolutionary movement in this sprawling historical drama inspired by Sanjeev Sanyal’s Revolutionaries: The Other Story of How India Won Its Freedom. The series focuses on young figures who rejected the idea of waiting for political change and instead chose armed resistance against the British Empire.
Bhuvan Bam plays Rash Behari Bose, who would go on to establish the Indian Independence League and become an important figure in the revolutionary movement. Rohit Saraf steps into the role of Sachindra Nath Sanyal, one of the founding members of the Hindustan Republican Association, while Gurfateh Pirzada plays revolutionary Bagha Jatin. Pratibha Ranta appears as Pratibha Lahiri.
Rather than approaching the freedom struggle through a single protagonist, the series follows interconnected revolutionary lives shaped by underground networks, political conviction and the constant threat of arrest or death. Jason Shah plays General Dyer, while Paoli Dam and Tota Roy Chowdhury appear in pivotal roles.
Ghamasaan – ZEE5, September 11
Tigmanshu Dhulia returns to the rugged terrain of crime, politics and compromised morality with Ghamasaan, a heartland thriller that refuses to draw a comfortable line between the man enforcing the law and the outlaw he is chasing.
Pratik Gandhi plays IPS officer Aditya Singh, who is tasked with hunting Maharaj, a feared dacoit portrayed by Arshad Warsi. But what begins as a pursuit gradually exposes a complicated ecosystem of political interests, shifting allegiances and people who benefit from keeping Maharaj either alive or beyond the reach of the authorities.
The film turns its central confrontation into something more slippery than a conventional police-versus-bandit showdown. Aditya is forced to operate inside the same morally compromised system he is supposedly defending, while Maharaj proves more complicated than his reputation suggests. Ishita Dutta also plays a pivotal role.
Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot – JioHotstar, September 11
The familiar name receives an inventive supernatural makeover in Ali Baba Aur 40 Bhoot, which relocates the story into a world inspired by Central Indian folklore.
Asha Negi plays Alisha “Ali” Nigam, a neuropsychology expert whose worldview is firmly rooted in science. When her father disappears, however, the search for him begins producing evidence that refuses to fit comfortably within rational explanation. Her missing-person complaint brings her into contact with police officer Baba, played by Vishal Vashishtha.
Together, Ali and Baba discover that the disappearance is connected to 40 restless ghosts, forcing a woman trained to understand the workings of the human mind to confront phenomena she has spent her life dismissing. Shane Nigam plays an important role, with Abhay Mahajan, Joy Sengupta, Mridul Das, Ramandeep Yadav, Mansi Sehgal and Ujjwal Chopra completing the ensemble.
Last Seen – Apple TV, September 9
Eleven years after his young daughter Maggie vanished, former police detective Ian Ridley has never managed to put his life back together. The disappearance ended his career, devastated his family and left him living with a question that no investigation could answer.
Now working as a police dispatcher, Ian receives a distress call from a teenage girl. There is something about her voice he cannot ignore. He becomes convinced that the caller is Maggie.
Patrick Brammall leads the thriller as Ian abandons procedure and begins conducting his own investigation, risking the relationships he still has in pursuit of a possibility everyone else may consider impossible. Maxine Peake, Brendan Cowell, Daniel Henshall, Zahra Newman, Jessica Wren and Chloe Jean Lourdes also star. The series is adapted from Ryan David Jahn’s 2011 novel The Dispatcher.
Why Did I Get Married Again? – Netflix, September 9
Tyler Perry reunites the gang from Why Did I Get Married? and Why Did I Get Married Too? for a third chapter, this time swapping the familiar relationship retreat for a destination wedding in Lake Como.
Marcus and Angela’s daughter Jasmine is preparing to marry Wesley, the son of successful businesswoman Roselyn. The wedding brings the old friends back together while introducing a younger generation carrying relationship questions of its own.
Predictably, the idyllic Italian setting does little to guarantee an idyllic celebration. Old resentments, secret affairs and uncomfortable truths begin emerging as the wedding approaches, forcing the group to confront issues they have carried for years. Tyler Perry, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Michael Jai White, Sharon Leal, Lamman Rucker and Richard T. Jones return, while Taraji P. Henson joins as Roselyn. Da’Vinchi and Armani Greer are among the new-generation cast.
Drawn Together – Prime Video, September 9
Ester Expósito leads this romantic thriller adapted from Mercedes Ron’s bestselling novel Marfil, the opening instalment in her Enfrentados duology.
She plays Marfil Cortés, the daughter of a powerful Spanish businessman who appears to have built a perfect life for herself in New York. That illusion collapses when she is suddenly kidnapped and then, just as mysteriously, released without any explanation.
Fearing that whoever targeted Marfil may return, her father hires Sebastian Moore, played by Hugo Diego García, as her bodyguard. The pair immediately clash, but constant proximity and escalating danger gradually begin breaking down their carefully maintained emotional defences. Their attraction develops alongside the larger mystery of why Marfil was taken in the first place. A sequel, Drawn Apart, has already been announced.
Call My Agent! The Movie – Netflix, September 10
Five years after ASK shut its doors, Andréa Martel has finally escaped the relentless crises of talent management and moved behind the camera.
Camille Cottin returns as Andréa, who is now directing her first feature film. Her new career immediately begins resembling her old one when her lead actor quits only days before shooting and a falling-out with her producer leaves the entire project on the verge of collapse.
With nowhere else to turn, Andréa reunites her former ASK colleagues. The reunion brings back old friendships, professional rivalries, bruised egos and the kind of catastrophic decision-making that defined the original French series. Designed as the final chapter of the beloved show, the film gives the old gang one more entertainment-industry crisis to survive together.
Crew Girl – Netflix, September 10
Sixteen-year-old Teagan Tao has already watched her family life collapse when her father’s financial fraud becomes a humiliating public scandal. Forced to relocate to the East Coast with her mother Ella, she enrols at the prestigious Easton Prep hoping to rebuild at least one part of her old identity: rowing.
There is one fairly substantial problem. Easton does not have a girls’ rowing team.
Miku Martineau plays Teagan, whose only route back onto the water is becoming coxswain for the school’s notoriously unruly boys’ varsity crew. The team does not particularly want her there, leaving Teagan to earn their respect while dealing with the rivalry between arrogant captain Josh Regis, played by Sam Braun, and the quieter Cam Dillinger, played by Kyle Clark. Jessica Paré appears as Teagan’s mother.
