New Delhi: India’s 2022 evacuation mission in Ukraine is set to become the subject of a new pan-Indian film, with Mohanlal leading Operation Ganga. The project, earlier known by its working title L367, has been directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Vishnu Mohan.
The title refers to the Indian government’s mission to bring home thousands of citizens, including students, who were stranded in Ukraine after Russia’s invasion. The film will present the high-stakes operation as a biographical action drama.
Vishnu Mohan, who made his directorial debut with Unni Mukundan-starrer Meppadiyan, has reportedly spent months researching the events behind the mission. His research included conversations with government officials and students who were evacuated from Ukraine.
The film brings together actors from Malayalam and Hindi cinema. Alongside Mohanlal, the cast includes Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashri Borse, R Parthiban and Adil Hussain.
The technical team adds to the film’s international scale. Miroslaw Kuba Brozek, known for his work on the Pushpa franchise, is handling cinematography, while Shashwat Sachdev, whose credits include Uri: The Surgical Strike, Dhurandhar and War, has composed the music. Shameer Muhammed is the editor, while Squadron Leader Varlin Panwar reportedly serves as military adviser.
Produced by Gokulam Gopalan under the Sree Gokulam Movies banner, Operation Ganga is being filmed across India and international locations. Secured sets will also be used to recreate Eastern European border crossings.
Mohanlal officially unveiled the film’s title and first-look poster on social media on September 5. The project marks his collaboration with Vishnu Mohan after the filmmaker’s critically recognised debut.
