NEW DELHI : Harmanpreet Kaur etched her name in record books and created history for India as she went past Mithali Raj to become India’s highest run-scorer at the T20 World Cup. Mithali, who retired from T20I cricket in 2019, scored 726 runs in 23 innings from 2009 to 2018. She was dropped for the 2018 WC semi-final against England. Harmanpreet shared the top spot with Mithali and went past her right after opening her account.
Harmanpreet, who scored 36 runs against Pakistan, now has the most T20 World Cup runs for India. She has scored 762 runs in 34 innings. Her tally includes 1 century and 4 half-centuries.
Harmanpreet made her T20 WC debut in the inaugural edition in 2009 and has featured in every edition so far. She replaced Mithali as the T20I captain in 2016.
Suzie Bates tops the overall list of batters with the most runs in the Women’s T20 WC. She has scored 1216 runs in 42 matches. Bates will retire from international cricket after the ongoing ICC event. She is followed by Stephanie Taylor, who has 1014 runs. Alyssa Healy sits in the third position. Healy scored 1008 runs in 42 matches.
India put on a big total of 170/6 in their first game of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Pakistan. Shafali Verma gave a dream start to India and hit a six on the very first ball of the game. However, she was dismissed on the fifth ball of the over.
Smriti Mandhana played a crucial 68-run knock off just 44 balls. She added 91 runs for the third wicket with Harmanpreet. Richa Ghosh gave a dream finishing touch to India’s total and slammed 34 off just 17 balls. Batting with a strike rate of 200, Richa hit 5 fours and a six in her knock. Pakistan were bowled out for 106 and lost the game by 64 runs.
