New Delhi: Russia has reportedly expressed its firm support to the future fighter aircraft requirements of India. Also, it is eager to offer technology transfer for Su57 fifth generation stealth fighter without any kind of restrictions, terming any demand by India as “completely acceptable.”
Recently, Indian and Russian officials have met several times including the meeting between External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Russian President Vladmir Putin. Notably, Putin is visiting India next month.
‘India, Russia partners for many years’
Sergey Chemezov, the CEO of Russian government-owned defence conglomerate Rostec, told news agency ANI on the sidelines of the Dubai Air Show 2025, “India and Russia have been partners for many years. Even when India was under sanctions, we supplied the country with weapons to ensure its security. Today, we continue the same approach as in previous years, supplying India with whatever military equipment it needs and ensuring our mutual interests in developing cooperation.”
He also added that if New Delhi requests for more S-400 systems or the Su-57, “We have strong relations with India, and whatever India requires, we are here to support.” Vadim Badekha, the Director General of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), a subsidiary of Rostec, confirmed Chemezov and Russia’s views regarding India’s demands and concerns and told ANI they are “completely acceptable”.
According to the ANI report, Russia is ready to help India in “license production of air weapons for future generation aircraft and integration of Indian weapons.” Moscow has reportedly offered India the Su-57 produced in Russia and its production may shift to our country in future, including “technology transfer” and “technological learning of few generation technologies, including engines, optics, AESA radar, AI elements, low signature technologies and modern air weapons.”
As a result, India can manufacture important components in the country and there will be “a gradual increase in the level of license production”. All these show the deep defence partnership that India and Russia have shared for over six decades.
