New Delhi : Delhi Police sources have named the driver of the car involved in the explosion near Red Fort on Monday as the mastermind of the blast. As per the sources, the terror suspect has been identified as Dr Umar Un Nabi of Pulwama.
The sources say that Dr Umar taught at the same Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, where another assistant professor, Dr Muzammil Shakeel, was arrested on October 30. It was at Dr Muzammil’s rented accommodation in Faridabad that the police recovered nearly 360 kg of a highly inflammable substance, believed to be ammonium nitrate, along with arms and ammunition and bomb-making material, in a raid on Sunday.
The police also recovered an assault rifle with three magazines, 83 live rounds, a pistol with eight live cartridges, 12 suitcases, a bucket filled with the explosive substance, 20 timers, remote controls and a walkie-talkie set.
Dr Umar, son of Gh Nabi Bhat, was a resident of Koil in Pulwama. He was also a close associate of Dr Adeel Rather, who was arrested on November 6 from a hospital in Saharanpur in connection with putting up a poster favouring the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Srinagar.
Dr Umar studied MD (Medicine) at Government Medical College in Srinagar. He worked as a senior resident at GMC Anantnag, before leaving for Delhi.
He has two brothers – Ashiq Nabi and Zahoor Nabi, one sister – Sabreena Nabi, and mother Shamima Bano.
All suspects in the Delhi blast and the Faridabad module – whether dead or alive – are believed to be a part of a radicalised doctors’ group active on encrypted Telegram channels.
