nava narasimha temples

New Delhi : Ahobilam pilgrimage site in Andhra Pradesh is known for its strong connection to Lord Narasimha, the fierce and protective avatar of Lord Vishnu. Nestled in the Nallamala Hills, this ancient pilgrimage centre is home to nine sacred temples, collectively called the Nava Narasimha temples. Each shrine represents a unique form of Narasimha, embodying power, compassion, protection and divine justice. Pilgrims believe that Lord Narasimha appeared here to protect his devotee Prahlada and defeat the demon king Hiranyakashipu, restoring peace to the world.

Many devotees undertake challenging treks through forests and rocky terrain to reach each temple, considering the journey itself a form of devotion and transformation. The calm surroundings, mythological roots and historic architecture make Ahobilam a destination where faith meets nature, offering visitors a deep sense of peace and divine presence. Explore more here.

1. Jwala Narasimha Swamy Temple

5. Karanja Narasimha Swamy Temple

Here, Narasimha is worshipped under a Karanja tree, symbolising deep meditation. It is the closest temple to Lower Ahobilam, just 1 kilometre away.

6. Bhargava Narasimha Swamy Temple

Connected with Bhargava Rama’s penance, this shrine is about 3 kilometres from Lower Ahobilam, attracting devotees seeking forgiveness and courage.

7. Yogananda Narasimha Swamy Temple
