Delhi: A tribute meeting was organized by the All-Party Cow Protection Forum outside Parliament House to mark the anniversary of the historic Cow Protection Movement of 1966. Under the leadership of the Forum’s National President, Thakur Jaipal Singh Nayal Sanatani, tribute was paid to the saints and cow protectors who sacrificed their lives for cow protection. The tribute meeting recalled that on November 7, 1966, on the day of Gopashtami, lakhs of saints and sages held a peaceful protest outside Parliament demanding a ban on cow slaughter and a cow protection law. Then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had promised Swami Karpatri Maharaj to end cow slaughter, but when the promise was not fulfilled, the protest turned violent, and many saints and sages were martyred in police firing. It is said that Swami Karpatri Maharaj cursed Indira Gandhi while carrying the bodies of the saints. During this, the organization’s president expressed hope for a law against cow slaughter in the future if Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath becomes Prime Minister. Several officials, including Haryana’s legal advisor, Advocate Nagendra Nagar, Supreme Court Advocate Santosh Rajput, State Media Incharge Mukesh Rohila, General Secretary Rahul Kaushik, and National Campaigner Hariom Pandey, were present at the tribute ceremony. The program renewed the demand for strict laws for cow protection.
