Lucknow : Sanjiv Goenka has confirmed Rishabh Pant’s future with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) two days before the IPL franchises have to submit the list of retained and released players to the BCCI. The LSG owner took to X to share that he had a “great discussion” with Pant and other coaches before the next season. Since Pant was part of the meeting, it’s confirmed that he will continue to be with the franchise.
Justin Langer will continue to perform the role of LSG’s head coach. He will be joined by Bharat Arun, Tom Moody and Kane Williamson. Arun joined LSG as their bowling coach. Moody and Williamson will perform the roles of global director of cricket and strategic advisor, respectively. Zaheer Khan left LSG after just one season. He had signed a two-year deal with LSG.

LSG bought Pant for a record amount of Rs 27 crore, making him the costliest player in IPL’s history. LSG originally bought him for Rs 20.75 crore. Delhi Capitals (DC) used their RTM card for Pant to retain him. Under the new rules, LSG raised Pant’s bid to Rs 27 crore, which DC didn’t match.
LSG failed to qualify for the second round of an IPL season for the second consecutive year. With 6 wins and 8 defeats, LSG finished seventh in the points table. They had a decent run in the first half and won 5 out of their first 8 matches.
However, LSG only managed one win in their next six matches to crash out of the season from the league stage. Pant struggled with the bat and managed to score 269 runs in 14 matches. He only breached the three-figure mark once. Despite LSG’s below-par run, LSG are set to back him for another season. LSG, who made their IPL debut in 2022, haven’t played an IPL final yet.
