Tensions may have simmered behind the scenes of Netflix’s blockbuster series Stranger Things ahead of its final season. According to a report first carried by The Daily Mail, British actress Millie Bobby Brown, 20, who has portrayed the telekinetic hero Eleven since 2016, allegedly filed a formal complaint against her on-screen father and co-star David Harbour before filming began for Season 5.
Sources cited in the report claim that Brown submitted “pages and pages of accusations” to Netflix, describing repeated incidents of bullying, unprofessional behaviour, and verbal intimidation by Harbour. Importantly, the report clarified that no sexual-misconduct allegations were made. The complaint, it said, led to an internal investigation lasting several months prior to the start of production earlier this year.
An insider quoted by the outlet stated, “She filed a harassment and bullying claim before shooting the final season. The investigation went on for months.” Brown was reportedly accompanied on set by a representative to ensure her comfort and safety during filming, a measure that remained in place throughout production.
Netflix has not released an official statement regarding the reported complaint, and representatives for both Brown and Harbour have declined to comment.
The dynamic between the two actors has been a core emotional thread in the series since Harbour’s character, Chief Jim Hopper, became Eleven’s adoptive father in Season 2. Their on-screen relationship has often oscillated between tenderness and tension, mirroring their characters’ struggles with trauma and responsibility.
In earlier interviews, Brown described Harbour as “like a father figure”, admitting that their passionate working styles sometimes led to “heated creative clashes.” Harbour, for his part, has publicly expressed pride in Brown’s growth from child star to leading actress, calling her “a special person I’ve watched grow up before my eyes.”
Industry context
While the authenticity of the report remains unconfirmed, its emergence underscores the increasing focus on workplace safety and accountability in entertainment. Major studios have strengthened oversight policies following a series of high-profile misconduct cases across Hollywood. Netflix has been particularly proactive since 2020 in establishing internal ethics boards and third-party review panels for on-set complaints.
Season 5 expectations
Stranger Things 5—created by the Duffer Brothers—is being billed as the series’ final chapter. Filming began mid-2025 after delays caused by last year’s Hollywood strikes. The season is set to premiere on November 26, 2025, concluding one of Netflix’s most successful franchises and a defining show of the streaming era.
Despite the alleged off-camera discord, early set reports suggest that production has remained on schedule. Fans have expressed hope that any personal tensions will not affect the story’s conclusion, which is expected to reunite all the original cast members.
