New Delhi: Instagram has launched AI technology-based translations of five key Indian languages and has implemented native Indian fonts to ensure that the platform is more local to its enormous audience. The update is supposed to assist creators to reach out to more people by breaking language boundaries among states. It also increases accessibility where users are able to read and interact with the content in scripts that they are conversant with.
The new features come at a time when Meta is still targeting India, which is among the largest markets of Instagram. As its creators are uploading millions of content every day, the company is pushing tools, which facilitate linguistic diversity, enhance creativity and make the app more tailored to Indian creators.
AI translations expand to five Indian languages
Instagram is launching Meta AI translations of Reels in Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi. Only English, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese translations were available so far. It is also now possible to translate audio in one Indian language to another but preserve the original voice quality. The video can be made to look as though it is being recorded in that language by optional lip-sync enhancement, which synchronizes movements of the mouth to the audio being translated.
Native Indian fonts for better creative tools
The site is also introducing new Indian scripts in Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts. This allows users to type captions or any other text which appears natural in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali or Assamese. In case a device is configured to an Indian language, then Instagram will give these fonts precedence. The Android users will be the starting point of the rollout.
The new features are introduced as Instagram intensifies its creative capabilities, such as AI restyling of images and videos, better editing capabilities, massively editing captions, reversing videos and adding more sound effects. The still pictures can even be animated with a new lip-sync tool. Through these additions, Instagram wants to enhance its relationship with the creator community in India and make the platform more consumer-friendly and user-friendly in the country.
