Kolkata: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief, Mohan Bhagwat, on Sunday said that attempting to understand the RSS through the lens of the BJP often leads to a massive misunderstanding. He asserted that the RSS is devoted to the betterment of the country and society and urged citizens to devote one hour a day, irrespective of their political and cultural affiliations, to the development of the country and society.
“People often make vague comparisons between the RSS and other organisations, and make mistakes. Our swamsevaks today are part of several organisations. Some of them are part of politics, some of them are part of power. This is the reason many see through the lens of the BJP and make a mistake. To understand the Sangh, you need to look at it and need to feel it,” said Bhagwat while addressing the ‘RSS 100 Vyakhyan Mala’ programme in Kolkata.
Making it clear that the RSS is not just another service organisation, Bhagwat claimed, “Today, our swamsevaks run nearly 1,30,000 service schemes through several organisations without taking a penny from the government. Now, anyone can say that the Sangh is just another service organisation. However, that will be a mistake.”
Bhagwat also noted that the organisation works to protect the interests of Hindus and is passionate about the unification of the Hindu society.
On the occasion of the RSS’s 100th anniversary, Bhagwat has been on a tour to West Bengal. He has been visiting several parts of the state and addressing conferences organised by the local RSS units. Before Kolkata, Bhagwat was in Siliguri and delivered his speech at a seminar titled ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh: A Journey of 100 Years,’ as reported by news agency ANI.
The programme was attended by senior citizens, retired government officials, academicians, doctors, advocates, eminent businesspersons, artists, poets, writers, sportspersons, members of various social and religious non-governmental organisations, and several others from eight districts of North Bengal.
