Meaning behind tiny spider below Maa Durga’s bindi
The spider’s web signifies Mahamaya, or the supreme illusion, or the divine feminine that is embodied by the spider. The spider weaves the net and spreads it out, but it never gets entangled in it. Maa Durga also creates an illusion, but it never consumes her and remains under control.
The spider’s web embodies the entanglement in worldly desires and the fragile existence of human beings and other creatures in the world in Hinduism. Besides, the spider’s web also symbolises the delicate balance people search for, reflecting both life’s complexities and the pursuit of spiritual clarity beyond attachments.
This Durga Puja 2026, as you stroll through various pandals, do notice the tiny spider below Maa Durga’s bindi. It is a reminder of the meaning the spider’s web embodies.
