New Delhi: Marvel’s upcoming superhero movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, is set to have a massive opening in India and is expected to surpass the collections of Avengers: Endgame.
The film has already grossed Rs 35.40 crore in India in its advance booking sales. The buzz around the film is just growing with each passing moment, with rave reviews coming in from its domestic market.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Box Office prediction
We spoke exclusively to trade expert Girish Johar, who gave his box office prediction for the film’s opening day in India.
He told us, “the advance booking is stupendous. It’s in the top five of all-time Hollywood advance bookings, behind Avengers: Endgame. I am expecting a huge start across languages.”
“It has the potential to breach the Rs 50 crore gross box office mark in India alone. That’s huge, and that’s on a non-holiday. So, the craze for the film is humongous, and everyone is very excited to watch it,” Johar added.
Will Ramayana trailer boost the Day 1 collections of Spider-Man?
When we asked if the Ramayana trailer being attached could boost its opening day collections in India, he told us, “Yes. My point is that Doomsday fans and Spider-Man fans have a very similar target group. Spider-Man is anyway taking a huge start. So, the target group of Spider-Man in India is very similar to the target group of Avengers as well. So yes, it does add to the excitement, and definitely Ramayana will also get a lot of eyeballs while everyone is watching Spider-Man.”
Spider-Man to surpass Avengers: Endgame collections?
Girish Johar told us, “We really hope so. As film fraternity members, we want every Friday to be a blockbuster Friday. The film does have a lot of craze and huge potential. Advance ticket sales are also massive. It has the capability to breach the Avengers: Endgame mark, but that was something extraordinary at that point in time. Still, we can never say never. We really hope that it does.”
He continued, “We also have another Avengers film coming up in December. So, as fraternity members, we would be happy if Spider-Man beats the previous Avengers record, and then Avengers beats the previous Spider-Man record. We would be happy to look forward to that.”
We also spoke with trade expert Akshaye Rathi, who opined, “Spider-Man is India’s favourite Hollywood superhero franchise in terms of the numbers it receives, the love it gets, and the loyal audience and footfalls it attracts in cinemas. Unlike the recent big Hollywood films, such as The Odyssey, which were limited by the fact that they received an A certificate and, therefore, children couldn’t come and watch them, Spider-Man won’t have any such limitations. It is poised to open with a bang in a big way.”
He added, “Therefore, I see absolutely no reason why Spider-Man shouldn’t go on to become one of the biggest openers for a Hollywood film. It can potentially do ₹30 crore-plus on Day 1 at the Indian box office.”
Will Spider-Man impact future collections of The Odyssey?
Akshaye Rathi said, “I think all these films have the ability to coexist without cannibalising each other. There is enough of an audience for all of them to turn up in cinemas and give them the kind of numbers that they warrant. So, I don’t think any of these films are affecting each other. All of them will coexist amazingly at the box office, giving the audience the choice and variety they deserve across genres.”
