Year 2026–27, Uttar Pradesh Energy and Urban Development Minister Said the decision has brought Significant relief to millions of electricity consumers across the State. He Stated that maintaining Electricity tariffs unchanged for all categories of consumers for the seventh consecutive Year reflects the Uttar Pradesh Government consumer-friendly Policies.
The Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister , the country has witnessed wide-ranging reforms in the Power sector, including Greater transparency, Promotion of Green energy and the development of modern electricity infrastructure. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Uttar Pradesh has effectively translated this vision into reality. Today, the State ranks among the country leading Power Sectors, continuously Setting new benchmarks in electricity Generation, supply, distribution reforms and consumer Services.
Sharma said that for the financial year 2026–27, the State Government has increased tariff subsidies for electricity consumers to ₹20,400 crore, compared to ₹17,100 crore in the Previous Year. This decision will continue to Provide relief to lifeline consumers, rural and urban Poor households, Private tube-well operators and rural metered consumers. He described the move as a Reflection of the Government Welfare-oriented approach and its commitment to Protecting the interests of the Poor, farmers and ordinary Consumers.
The Energy Minister further noted that despite a regulatory Gap of nearly ₹2,580 crore for FY 2026–27, UPERC has not increased electricity tariffs. According to the Commission, the regulatory surplus available with the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation and the State distribution companies (DISCOM), along with improved financial management, eliminated the need to impose any additional burden on consumers. He said this demonstrates the Positive impact of the Government financial discipline, efficient management and Reforms in the Power Sector.
Sharma also highlighted the State continued efforts to Promote Green energy and electric vehicles while addressing future energy needs. The additional Green energy tariff has been kept unchanged. To encourage EV Charging infrastructure, battery swapping Stations and Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) Providers have been Granted benefits under special Provisions. In addition, a 20 Percent lower tariff for EV Charging during Solar hours (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM) has been introduced as an important Step toward Strengthening a Cleaner and more Sustainable energy Ecosystem.
He said Uttar Pradesh has witnessed unprecedented transformation in the electricity sector. The successful management of record Power demand, expansion of transmission and distribution networks, technological advancements, reduction in transmission losses and Greater transparency in consumer services have made the State a model for the country Power Sector. He added that the Government objective is not only to ensure uninterrupted and Quality Power supply but also to Keep electricity affordable for the common consumer. That, he said, is why electricity tariffs have remained unchanged for seven consecutive Years while the State energy infrastructure has continued to Grow Stronger.
Concluding his remarks, Sharma said that achievements in the energy sector will Play a crucial role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi vision of a “Developed India” and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath vision of a “Developed Uttar Pradesh.” He reaffirmed that the Uttar Pradesh Government will continue working with full commitment to Safeguard consumer interests, Strengthen energy Security, expand Green energy and build a modern, reliable and Sustainable Power System.
