New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the welfare of the poor has remained the central focus of his government’s policies over the past 12 years, asserting that efforts rooted in the principle of Antyodaya have helped bring development benefits to millions who were previously excluded from the mainstream.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi reflected on what he described as the transformative changes witnessed across the country during the last 12 years, emphasizing that the government’s initiatives have been guided by a commitment to uplift the poor and marginalized sections of society.
“Over the last 12 years, India has witnessed many transformations and at the core of these changes is the welfare of the poor and downtrodden. We have always been inspired by Antyodaya and our effort has always been to ensure that the benefits of development reach those who were left behind for decades,” the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting key flagship programmes launched during his tenure, Modi pointed to initiatives such as Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission and Ayushman Bharat, saying they were designed to enhance dignity, access and opportunities for ordinary citizens.
“From Jan Dhan accounts and Direct Benefit Transfer to Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat and more, every initiative has been driven by a simple objective of ensuring people have dignity and opportunity,” he said.
The Prime Minister also stressed the role of technology in improving governance and ensuring that welfare schemes reach beneficiaries without intermediaries. According to him, digital platforms and DBT mechanisms have strengthened transparency, minimized leakages and improved the efficiency of public service delivery.
“It is also gladdening that technology has played a vital role in ensuring a better quality of life for the poor. Through Direct Benefit Transfer and digital platforms, support is reaching people directly and transparently. This has reduced leakages, improved efficiency and strengthened trust in governance,” Modi said.
Describing welfare delivery as a means of empowerment rather than assistance alone, Modi said the government’s efforts have evolved into a larger movement aimed at building a developed India by 2047.
“This is how the journey of furthering Garib Kalyan has become a collective movement towards human empowerment and realising our dream of a Viksit Bharat,” he added.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came as the NDA government completed 12 years in office. Throughout this period, the Centre has highlighted financial inclusion, housing, sanitation, healthcare coverage, clean drinking water and digital governance as major achievements of its welfare agenda.
While the government has credited technology-driven reforms for improving service delivery and transparency, opposition parties have continued to raise concerns over issues such as unemployment, rising prices and the overall effectiveness of welfare interventions.
