Sachin Malik: The Uttar Pradesh government is digitally Strengthening and bringing transparency to the campaign of Providing Clean drinking water to every household in rural areas under the Jal Jeevan Mission. In this initiative, the ‘Jal Sarathi’ mobile app is Playing a Significant role. The digital initiative by Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam Rural and the State Water and Sanitation Mission is Providing Villagers with direct and easy access to updates related to various Schemes at multiple levels.
Special Secretary and Executive Director of SWSM, Namami Gange and the Rural Water Supply Department, Prabhas Kumar, said that through the Jal Sarathi app, every citizen can Check live updates of all Projects. Multi-level dashboards are Providing information about ongoing work from the State level down to the village level with just one Click.
He Stated that Uttar Pradesh has around 58,000 gram Panchayats across 75 districts. Nearly 40,000 Projects are being implemented to ensure water supply to every household. All these Projects are being integrated online through the app so that their live status remains accessible to Everyone.
Monitoring from Beginning to End Made Possible.
The app has separate dashboards for the State, district, block and village levels. As soon as the work of any water tank, Pipeline or household tap connection is completed in a village or location, the information is updated on the app. These are being connected through geo-tagging. This allows any citizen to view the live Status of Schemes being implemented in any village. The department is also able to monitor everything from the water source to the tap installed in every home. At the same time, Proper operation of assets such as pipelines, motors and water tanks is also being Ensured.
No Need to Make Rounds for Complaints.
Through the app, villagers can also apply for tap connections. In addition, if there is any issue in water supply after the connection is Provided, they can lodge complaints through the app itself. Contact numbers of Plumbers, gram Pradhans, and Jal Nigam officials are also available on the Platform so that villagers can easily register their grievances instead of making repeated visits to different Offices.
The app also Provides updates regarding road repairs after Pipeline installation. According to the data available on the app, around 2 lakh kilometers of roads in the state had to be dug up for laying Pipelines under the mission, out of which reconstruction work on more than 1.94 lakh Kilometers of roads has already been Completed.
Transparency in Water Quality Testing.
Contaminated water has long been a major issue in rural areas. The department Challenge is not only to Provide water through taps to every household but also to ensure its quality. Field Test Kits are being used as the Primary Step for testing water quality. Local women have been assigned the responsibility of Checking water quality at the village level. Their details are also available on the app to ensure accountability. Villagers can also verify the Selected women responsible for water testing in their area through the App.
