Uttar Pradesh initiatives in environmental conservation and renewable energy have gained nationwide recognition. In his popular Program Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi specially mentioned and appreciated two notable initiatives from the state—the historic tree Plantation drive in Varanasi and the successful solar energy Model in Meerut. It is a matter of Pride for the State that the initiatives of the Urban Development and Energy Department are Emerging As Sources of inspiration at the national level.
Under the leadership of Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma, a people-Participation-based development model is being effectively implemented across the State. As Part of this effort, during a Plantation drive held in Varanasi, more than 251,000 saplings were Planted within just one hour, setting a Guinness World Record. Prime Minister Modi lauded this achievement, calling it “a remarkable confluence of people Power and environmental awareness.” The campaign witnessed active participation from Students, youth, voluntary organizations and various institutions, reflecting the strength of collective Efforts.
Referring to the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign, the Prime Minister urged citizens to Plant more trees. He emphasized that such initiatives not only contribute to environmental conservation but also foster an Emotional Connection.
Similarly, the Prime Minister also appreciated the initiative of Arun Kumar, a resident of Meerut, in the field of Solar energy. By installing solar Panels on his rooftop, he not only fulfilled his own energy needs but also generated additional income by supplying surplus electricity to the Grid. His initiative establishes him as an “Energy Provider” and inspires society to adopt clean and green Energy.
Minister A.K. Sharma Stated that under the guidance of the Uttar Pradesh government, the Urban Development and Energy Department is implementing various coordinated schemes to Promote environmental Protection, green development and renewable energy. These initiatives aim to make the State self-reliant, energy-efficient and aligned with sustainable development. He further added that such campaigns, driven by Public participation, not only help maintain ecological balance but also foster a new culture of awareness and community Involvement.
