Energy Minister A.K. Sharma launched the scheme from Soraon, Prayagraj followed by mega camps in Pratapgarh and Rae Bareli districts.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government much-awaited and highly beneficial “Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025–26” was formally launched across the state today. Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K Sharma launched this historic scheme from the Soraon substation in Prayagraj. He then inaugurated mega camps at the Kunda substation in Pratapgarh and the Unchahar substation in Rae Bareli district. During the inauguration the Energy Minister stated that this scheme will not only provide financial relief to consumers but will also usher in a new era of trust and cooperation between the electricity department and consumers. He described it as an example of the government sensitive and effective approach. At the launch ceremony, Minister Sharma distributed certificates to the five first consumers who registered and encouraged them. He stated that today launch brings a ray of relief for consumers burdened by years of unpaid bills. Consumers registering in the first phase of the scheme will receive 100 percent interest waiver and an additional 25 percent discount on the principal amount, significantly reducing their liabilities.

The Energy Minister stated that the registration process has been simplified and accessible. Consumers can register on the departmental website www.uppcl.org at the relevant division/subdivision office, at the Public Service Center (CSC) or at any departmental cash counter.

The department is conducting a comprehensive public awareness campaign to ensure that more people can benefit from the scheme. The scheme will be implemented in three phases. The first phase will begin on December 1, 2025 and will continue until December 31, 2025. The second phase will run from January 1, 2026 to January 31, 2026 and the third phase will run from February 1, 2026 to February 28, 2026. In the first phase, a 25% rebate on the principal amount along with 100% interest will be provided, followed by a 15% rebate in the second phase and a 10% rebate in the third phase.

This one-time settlement facility is particularly useful for consumers whose bills have become excessive due to interest and surcharges. He explained that, considering the financial capabilities of consumers the government has also provided the facility of paying in monthly installments to reduce the burden on them. These monthly installments will be ₹750 and ₹500. During the program the Energy Minister directed departmental officials to provide information to consumers through camps, streamline the registration process and ensure that no eligible person is left without benefits. He stated that it is the department responsibility to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach every needy family.

Minister Sharma on this occasion, specifically thanked and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stating that this sensitive approach of prioritizing consumer interests has been the inspiration behind this scheme. Due to the Prime Minister commitment to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas” and the consistent relief policy for electricity consumers under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, there has been no increase in electricity rates in the state for six years. Now with the implementation of this historic relief scheme, this scheme will significantly reduce the financial burden on consumers. He said that the guidance of both the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister is the foundation of this scheme, which will bring positive change in the lives of millions of families in the state. Minister Sharma appealed to all defaulting consumers to not miss this opportunity and register and avail the benefits of the scheme. He said, “The Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025-26 is a historic initiative to free consumers from the burden of their past and will bring real financial relief to their lives.”

On this occasion, MLA Phaphamau Guru Prasad Maurya, MLA Phulpur Deepak Patel, Legislative Council Member Surendra Chaudhary, MLA Unchahar Manoj Pandey, MD Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Shambhu Kumar, MD Madhyanchal Riya Kejriwal, other local public representatives, Chief Electrical Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Executive Engineer, electricity consumers and a large number of local citizens were present.
